Arapahoe County authorities on Wednesday identified a 25-year-old man early Monday after authorities say he tried to kill an officer.

Tuan Hoang died of multiple gunshot wounds, the county coroner’s office said, and his manner of death has been ruled homicide.

Police say Hoang attacked an Aurora officer Monday . Investigators say the officer was checking on a stopped vehicle Hoang was driving when the altercation happened.

Hoang then stole the officer’s patrol car, authorities say, and led police on a chase at speeds of up to 65 mph on icy roads.

Near East Alameda Parkway and East Kentucky Avenue, one of the pursuing officers bumped his vehicle into the stolen patrol car, spinning it to a stop.

Hoang got out holding something in his right hand, police say.

Officers ordered Hoang to drop the object and raise his hands and, when he did not comply, they opened fire, according to investigators.

Hoang was pronounced dead at the scene.
