Paul Roberts finished fourth on Saturday in the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships in San Diego.
Running at Balboa Park, Roberts, a senior at Class 2A Lyons and the only four-time Colorado champion, finished in 15 minutes, 15.6 seconds.
Roberts, who will run at CSU-Pueblo, was about 20 seconds off the pace set by national champion Drew Hunter of Loudoun Valley High in Purcellville, Va., who won in 14:55.7.
Roberst was the only local male in the championships, which included 40 boys and 40 girls. In girls, Denver North’s Kayla Young ended 33rd in 18:31.4. The winning time was 17:09.7.
Fort Collins’ Lauren Gregory, a junior who has won three consecutive 5a titles, pulled out earlier with an injury.
