Eastbound Interstate 70 has been closed due to a jackknifed semi-tractor trailer at East Avon, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

The crash happened at 8:59 a.m., according to a CDOT tweet.

The Eagle River Fire Protection District tweeted images of a semi blocking the road and said hazmat teams were working to clean up a diesel spill. The accident was at mile marker 168.

The agency estimated the highway would reopen about 11:30 a.m., although I-70 onramp will remain closed longer.
