Secret projects are all the rage these days. Wu Tang Clan quietly recorded “Once Upon a Time in Shaolin” and made only one copy of it, to top-ten jackass Martin Shkreli. Future released out of the blue (purple?) earlier this week. Crystal Pepsi was somehow kept underwraps until weeks before late last year.

Now, as has revealed, former Stooges’ frontman Iggy Pop and Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age/Eagles of Death Metal fame have cut an album of original songs completely independent of the usual machinations of the music industry. It’s called “Post Pop Depression” and will be released in March via Loma Vista Records.

Pop says the album is centered around the concept of a person’s place in the world after their obvious usefulness has been exhausted (via the New York Times):

“In American life, because itap so hypercompetitive, what happens when you’re finally useless to everyone except hopefully not yourself? What happens then? And can you continue to be of use to yourself? I had a kind of character in mind. It was sort of a cross between myself and a military veteran.”

Watch for Pop and Homme’s band to make its debut tonight on .
