Helbig was having a record-breaking season as the quarterback at Holy Family this fall when he suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament, medial collateral ligament and meniscus in his right knee on Oct. 30.

Helbig told the Daily Camera on Friday that he is progressing well in his rehabilitation from that injury.

“I’m hoping that I can start participating in everything again early to mid summer,” he said. “That’s what I’m shooting for.”

Helbig, who threw for 6,634 yards and 72 touchdowns during his final two high school seasons, had also been recruited in football.

On the basketball court, the 6-foot-4 Helbig averaged 18.2 points per game as a junior for the 20-5 Tigers.
