An Aurora man was arrested Monday in Connecticut after authorities there say he traveled east to have sex with a 13-year-old girl and planned to return to Colorado with her.
Nathaniel P. Smith, 29, is accused of second-degree sex assault and risk of injury to a minor in the case.
Deputy Chief Peter Reichard, of the New London Police Department in Connecticut, said Smith was arraigned Tuesday morning and is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.
Investigators say Smith was found at a Holiday Inn with the girl by state police. The teen had been reported missing, authorities say.
Smith met the girl through a social media application, police said.
Officials did not say how long Smith and the girl had been together before they were discovered.
