The looming snowstorm aimed at Denver didn’t stop Broncos fans from giving their team a Super Bowl send-off Sunday afternoon.
An estimated 7,500 fans showed up at Denver’s Civic Center for the apountry Fan Rally, according to Scott Gilmore, the deputy manager of parks and recreation.
“With the snow coming, we were worried, but they turned out really well,” Gilmore said. “Wait until we bring home the trophy. There will be a million people out here.”
As the event went into full swing, Broncos cheerleaders signed autographs, and former players made predictions about the outcome of next Sunday’s Super Bowl. The rally also featured an appearance by Miles the Mascot.
But celebrating with devoted fans from the Mile High City was the motivation for several fans who showed up for the rally.
“I’m feeling that Mile High energy,” said Jason Phelan, a 30-year-old salesman from Denver. “I would just love to see them bring a trophy home. I think they deserve it, and we have a good chance.”
Above the crowd chanting “Go, Broncos,” Miguel Sifuentes, 37, waved a massive, homemade Broncos flag. He said the flag will travel with him to California this week when he cheers on the team at the Super Bowl.
“We’ve got to do our thing in the stands, and they’ve got to do their thing on the field,” he said.
Fans who aren’t attending the game turned out at the rally to gear up for their own celebrations.
Tate Gilpin, a 28-year-old Denver resident, said he and his friends will unite in orange at their annual Super Bowl viewing party.
“The fans are going to have an impact,” he said. “If you’re not a true fan, don’t be in the room with me during the game.”
