New-vehicle registrations in Colorado finished strong in 2015 with an increase of 8 percent over the previous year.
New car and truck registrations totaled 203,471 , which topped the 188,416 logged in 2014, the Colorado Automobile Dealers Association said Tuesday.
But dealers saw a slowdown in December with 16,921 registrations, down from .
Still, CADA president Tim Jackson called 2015 one of the strongest years for new vehicle sales since the recession.
“Pent up consumer demand for new cars and trucks in Colorado continues to be driven by low fuel prices, affordable interest rates, readily available credit for most buyers and gains in employment,” he said in a statement.
U.S. sales were up 5.7 percent for the year.
Light trucks continue to outperform cars in the state. Compact SUVs and compact pickups saw the most growth in market share for the year.
Brands that increased registrations in 2015 by more than 14 percent were Chrysler, Lincoln, Porsche, Volvo, Buick, GMC and Subaru, according to the report. The automakers with the most new registrations for the year were Toyota/Scion, Ford and Subaru.
Brands that logged drops in sales last year were Kia, Dodge, Acura and Fiat.
New registrations of Volkswagens increased 5.4 percent for the year. But new registrations the brand, which is , dropped 13 percent in December the month before.
Used vehicle registrations increased 5.9 percent in 2015 to 194,885 from 183,959 in 2014. In December, used vehicles were down 11.3 percent from the year before.
