SAN FRANCISCO — Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin on Thursday defended the dance moves of the infamous Super Bowl halftime show Left Shark from 2015, laying out his plans to avoid another “Left Shark moment” at Super Bowl 50 when his British rock band performs.
Left Shark became , thanks to a little offbeat dancing during Katy Perry’s performance. The Left Shark costume is on display this year at the Super Bowl 50 NFL Shop at Moscone Center.
When asked what he envisioned being Coldplay’s “Left Shark moment” during the Super Bowl 50 halftime show, Martin’s response had the crowd laughing.
“It’s a difficult question to answer,” Martin said. “You’re saying, ‘Which part of our show will (mess) up terribly?'”
Martin went on to defend Left Shark’s dance moves.
“He did great. It seems to be a lot of fuss over nothing,” Martin said. “I thought he was wonderful, or she, or whoever was in it.”
Martin, however, did offer a tongue-in-cheek solution to avoid a repeat performance.
“I think when we bring our sharks out, we’ve trained them so well this year. All of our sharks,” Martin joked. “We’ve got left shark, middle shark, front shark, back shark, two right sharks, and a reserve shark in case one of the first sharks has a problem.”
