BRIGHTON — The Commerce City police officer accused of falsely accusing a non-existent motorist of shooting him briefly appeared in court Thursday morning.
Kevin Lord, 51, was expected enter a plea in Adams County District Court, but the arraignment was postponed.
Lord faces one felony count of attempting to influence a public servant and a misdemeanor charge of false reporting to authorities.
Lord, an 8-year veteran of the department, is free on a $5,000 bond.
On Thursday, Lord’s attorney told the judge that talks with the district attorney to resolve the case are ongoing. He asked for more time, and the judge granted it. A new hearing was scheduled March 14.
On Nov. 8, Lord reported that he had been shot in the torso after stopping a suspicious vehicle near the 9700 block of Peoria Street. He was hospitalized and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The day before Lord’s arrest, Commerce City, state and federal officials announced a for information in Lord’s shooting.
The hearing is scheduled to begin at 8:30 am.
