Jefferson County Open Space has added more than 1,000 acres to its northern Jeffco parks thanks to two new parcels.

This is the second acquisition of this size in the past year. The agency announced the .

This time, the county acquired three parcels adjacent to Coal Creek Canyon Open Space Park and connecting to . This includes 963 acres from Indigena LLC and 113 acres from Laramie Ridge LLC, both Boulder-based real estate investment companies, totalling 1,076 acres.

A release from Jeffco Open Space said this acquisition brings the total amount of protected public lands north of Golden Gate Canyon Road and Colorado 93 to more than 20,000 acres.

These parcels and those acquired last year will serve “as a buffer area north of Ralston Creek as well as a future trail connection between Coal Creek Canyon Park, White Ranch Park and Golden Gate Canyon State Park.”

Jeffco Open Space paid a total of $6.75 million for the parcels. The agency said it will survey the land thoroughly before planning its potential uses.
