Army firefighters and crews from several agencies continued to fight a 1,000-acre blaze on a training range at the south end of Fort Carson late Saturday afternoon.
Post spokeswoman Dani Johnson said at about 4 p.m. that crews were still working to establish fire lines as two Chinook helicopters were in the air but had not yet dropped water on the flames.
Officials said earlier Saturday that the fire started Saturday as Marines trained on the weapons range at the post. The blaze was about 500 acres shortly after noon. Smoke from the fire as visible for miles.
