
1 Desperately dirty crook. An employee at King Soopers, 9551 S. University Blvd., Highlands Ranch, called police on Feb. 12 after a review of security footage revealed a man filled a cart with 12 jugs of Tide laundry detergent and walked out without paying. The same man is believed to have been thwarted in a similar theft near Fort Collins the same day.
2 Pulling the rug out. A man stopped by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office on Feb. 14 to report that on Jan. 14 a $13,000 imported Afghan rug was stolen off his front porch. He said he left the rug out for a company that was cleaning his carpets. The company was supposed to take the rug, clean it and return it but claimed it was never there. He thinks junk collectors may have taken it. (Not on map.)
3 Double break-in double whamy. A woman finished working out at 24 Hour Fitness,333 Dad Clark Drive, Highlands Ranch, on Feb. 14 to find her car’s passenger window smashed and her purse missing. More than $200 worth of items were inside. The car was a rental while the woman’s own car was in the shop.
4 iPhone finder, iPhone keeper. A woman went to a movie at the AMC Theater at103 Centennial Blvd, Highlands Ranch, on Feb. 13 but lost her $600 iPhone 6 in the parking lot. Using a tracking application, she determined someone picked up the phone and took it home. She tracked the thief to a cul de sac but could not determine which house.
5 Window whacked. A woman living in the 13100 block of Deneb Drive, Douglas County, said she found the window of her Ford Explorer smashed out Feb. 16.
