ASPEN, Colo. (AP) — Aspen officials are looking to rid the city of an unpleasant odor downtown.

The Aspen Times reports (http://bit.ly/1TOx3Fg ) that sewage-like odors in two areas of downtown during the past month have caused health problems for employees at two businesses.

Aspen Consolidated Sanitation District Superintendent Tom Bracewell says the smell is likely a result of decaying organic matter in the storm sewers made worse by warm February temperatures. He says his agency is not in charge of storm sewers.

Director of Public Works Scott Miller says he investigated the odors to make sure it wasn’t natural gas, but could not comment further.

Area business owners say something needs to be done because of the smell, though no clear solution has been posed.
