Ponderosa High School students stage a walkout to protest what they say is a high teacher turnover caused by poor education policies by the Douglas County School district March 09. (Andy Cross, The Denver Post)
Re: Douglas County students walk out to protest teacher turnover, March 10 news story.
I salute the brave Ponderosa High School students who stood their ground to passionately fight for their teachers. Their efforts to shine a spotlight on the alarming number of teachers who have left the school over the last three years as a result of the school board s evaluation and compensation policies are commendable. To the Douglas County School Board: Skip the platitudes of providing a world-class education, which ring hollow under the circumstances. Actions speak louder than words. Cherish your most important resource, your teachers, and create policies that make them want to stay. We beg the school board to admit its mistakes and have the courage to correct the district s policies immediately. Stop the brain drain. There is not a moment to waste.
