A blustery but sunny day is forecast for the Denver metro area on Wednesday.
As a system draws closer to Colorado it appears more likely that rain and then snow will fall along the front range, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder.
Before the storm arrives Thursday evening, it will be sunny in the Denver metro area with a high of 49 degrees on Wednesday and 50 on Thursday.
Wind gusts of up to 33 mph are forecast for Wednesday and 26 mph on Thursday.
There is a 70 percent chance of rain and then snow on Thursday night, said NWS meteorologist Nezette Rydell.
Between 1 and 2 inches of snow is expected Thursday night.
There is a 60 percent chance that it will continue to snow on Friday, according to the NWS forecast.
“I think we’ll see 4 and 5 inches of snow,” Rydell said.
The mountains will get between 6 to 12 inches of new snow Thursday and Friday, she said.
The high temperature on Friday is only expected to reach 36 degrees.
Temperatures will start to rise on a mostly sunny weekend with a high of 47 on Saturday and 63 on Sunday.
It is expected to rise all the way to 70 degrees by Monday.
