PreFort Fest — Hi Dive, March 18-19

Chirping birds, potatoes, 400-plus buzz bands — Idaho sure is beautiful this time of year. That’s partly because Boise’s fifth annual Treefort music festival is about to descend on the state. As a sign of goodwill, Denver will once again offer up a slew of garage-born riff-writers to the festival’s music-worshiping masses. But before they set off into the Idaho night, Colfax Speed Queen, Bud Bronson and the Good Timers, the Dirty Few, Rip Rats and more will light their fuses at the Hi-Dive for two nights (Mar 18-19) of string-snapping party anthems at the Hi-Dive’s PreFort Fest. Tickets: $10 via hi-dive.com.

Santigold — Ogden Theatre, March 24

Now more than ever, there’s an overwhelming supply of pop music competing for our attention. New York’s Santigold has long made a case for herself as an answer to the genre’s sugary mainstream doldrums. “99¢,” the singer’s latest, is her most transparent crack at pop embodiment/critique, and contains some of her catchiest and smartest songs yet. Single “I Can’t Get Enough of Myself” wraps narcissism, self-confidence and the role of the pop star as a vicarious stand-in for their audience all under one doo-wop wrapper. Catch her and her inspired back-up dancers when they come to the Ogden Theatre on March 24. Tickets: $30.50-$35 via axs.com.

Magma — Gothic Theatre, March 22

This French prog-rock band are musicians’ musicians, a band that known to conjure jams that fly well over the uninitiated show-goers head. But for those who are familiar with their almost symphonic take on the traditional rock kit, they’re as formidable as any theory-fluent rock band of the last fifty years. They don’t tour often, so if you’re a late adopter, their show at the Gothic Theater on Tuesday is can’t-miss. Tickets: $25-$30 via .
