Littleton police on Monday identified the 23-year-old Thornton man slain in that investigators believe happened during a carjacking.

Jaime Albert Villareal was found dead at the scene of the early Friday shooting in an office building’s parking lot at 8122 South Park Lane.

Another man was found with a non-life-threatening bullet wound and transported to a hospital.

Cmdr. Trent Cooper, a police spokesman, said the two victims were independent contractors plowing snow in the area with a Ford pickup truck. Authorities believe the shooting happened when two suspects tried to steal their vehicle.

“That’s our assumption at this point,” Cooper told The Denver Post. “We are still very early in the investigation and we haven’t really established a solid motive.”

Police say their investigation revealed that Villareal’s Ford, which had a mounted snowplow, had been stolen. It was found abandoned and burned near the shooting scene.

Investigators say they are looking for two male suspects in the case.

Anyone with information on the shootings is asked to call Detective Brannan at 303-795-3894, Detective Goodman at 303-795-3896 or the Littleton Police Department at 303-794-1551.

Anonymous tips can be submitted by calling Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867. All tipsters can remain anonymous and are eligible for an award of up to $2,000.
