CASTLE ROCK — A retired Army colonel in a November hit-and-run will face trial July 25, a judge ruled Monday.

Douglas County District Judge Richard Caschette rejected a request from Eric Peter Henderson’s attorneys to continue his arraignment and instead set the case to go before a jury over five days.

Henderson, 52, with hit-and-run, vehicular homicide and tampering with evidence — all felonies. He also faces two misdemeanor charges of drunken driving.

A plea of “not guilty” was entered on his behalf. Henderson, , allegedly killed on Nov. 15 on Interstate 25 in Castle Rock.

Henderson did not speak during Monday’s hearing. He was flanked by two attorneys and clad in a navy suit with an American flag pin.

Henderson’s defense team told the court that they were still trying to gather information on the case. Prosecutors argued that they have had plenty of time to review evidence.

“Let’s get this case going,” said Chris Opfer, a deputy district attorney. “Let’s get some resolution.”

Opfer said moving to trial was in the best interest of the public and Jursevics’ family. She is survived by her husband and his baby daughter.

Authorities say Henderson, of Peyton, was on his way home from a Broncos game, where he had been drinking, when he struck Jursevics. “I killed a cop,” Henderson said through tears after he was arrested, according to an arrest affidavit.
