Denver police have four people in custody after a robbery attempt and shootout with a liquor store employee on Monday night.

The incident began just before 11 p.m. when the armed suspects entered the liquor store in the 1800 block of South Sheridan Boulevard, police say.

“Shots were exchanged,” Sonny Jackson, DPD spokesman, said Tuesday morning.

The suspects fled the scene and dropped off one person, who had a gunshot wound to the leg, at a hospital, Jackson said.

The wound could have been self-inflicted, he added.

Police spotted the suspect vehicle and gave chase. The chase ended at Cedar Avenue and Raritan Street, after police executed a maneuver that caused the driver to lose control.

Two males and two females are under arrest, Jackson said.
