Adams County authorities the 51-year-old Denver man .
Daven Scott Hannu died of multiple gunshot wounds, the county coroner’s office said Monday.
Police say the shooting happened after an officer pulled Hannu over early Wednesday on the 8700 block of Grant Street.
During the traffic stop, authorities say Hannu got out of his vehicle and shot the officer with a shotgun before returning to his car and driving off.
The wounded officer pursued Hannu south on Grant and was joined in the chase by two other police vehicles.
Hannu stopped in the middle of the street about two blocks south of where the encounter began and exchanged gunfire with officers, said Matt Barnes, a police spokesman. He was killed in the shootout.
The officer whom police say Hannu shot, whose identity has not been released, is a 30-year law enforcement veteran, Barnes said. He was shot multiple times but treated at a hospital Wednesday and released.
Hannu had a criminal record in Colorado dating back to 1983, state records show. His arrests were mainly for traffic offenses, including driving under the influence, and spanned the Denver metro area.
The 17th Judicial District Critical Incident team is investigating the shooting.
