SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. —  Another spring training is nearly in the books, and the Rockies team shop at Salt River Fields is close to rounding the bases.

According to first-year sales associate Jayden Fassett, the team shop hit a “triple” with sales this spring.

“I’d say a triple, but a lot of other people say a home run,” Fassett said. “It actually has been very, very good. We sold a lot of merchandise really quick, and I think in the past years they haven’t done well. This is an up year.”

Some of the hottest items this spring were the purple foam fingers, jerseys and polo shirts.

“With our polos, we had about 50 each of those when the season first started, and we only have one left of each,” Fassett said.

Kids apparel has also been a big sell with the most popular item a white t-shirt that says, “BLACK & PURPLE ARE MY FAVORITE COLORS.”

And, of course, baseball fans love their caps.

“I kind of wanted to get a spring training baseball hat or visor,” Rockies fan and Aurora resident Christa Steinkamp said.

But certain hats are no longer on the shelves.

“The spring training hats are all gone,” said Fassett. “We sold out probably within the first two weeks of the season. We had probably about 100 of them in three or four sizes, so we’re all sold out.”

Baseballs are out of stock, too.

“That’s kind of a bummer, but everything else is great,” Steinkamp said.

Aurora resident Linda Elton has come to spring training since 2001. This is not the first year she has been disappointed to find all the baseballs were sold.

“I’m looking for a dated baseball that says spring training, and unfortunately this is the second year in a row they haven’t had them when I got down here,” she said.

Elton was still able to walk out of the shop with a new Rockies women’s bejeweled jersey and hopes for a better regular season for the Rockies.

“I’m hoping that the pitching staff can come through and I’m hoping maybe with another catcher we can learn how to work with the pitching staff,” Elton said.
