General Motors is recalling 6,280 police cars nationwide to correct a power-steering defect and some of those cars are in the Aurora Police Department fleet.

The recall affects 2014 to 2016 model year Chevrolet Caprice Police Pursuit cars, according to Automotive News.

“We did have cars affected by the recall,” said Crystal McCoy, an aurora police spokeswoman.

McCoy said the cars revert to manual steering if the electric power assisted steering fails. The Aurora cars are being fixed during scheduled service appointments.

“It’s not a safety issue,” McCoy said.

She did not have the specific number of cars involved.

Doug Schepman, a Denver Police Department spokesman, said the Denver department doesn’t have any cars affected.

GM launched an investigation into the problem in September after the La Grange, Ill., police department reported a loss of power steering to the automaker, Automotive News reports.

No accidents or injuries have been reported, according to GM. Dealerships will replace the steering gear assembly at no charge.
