Colorado Rapids defender Sean St. Ledger has suffered a setback in his return from an offseason knee procedure.
St. Ledger , but did not train Monday. Rapids coach Pablo Mastroeni said the Republic of Ireland defender is experiencing knee swelling.
He s meeting with the doctor this week and trying to see if there s a different approach we can take to expedite the swelling in the knee, Mastroeni said Monday.
The Rapids coach described St. Ledger s knee issue as chronic, but something that could potentially be managed.
He hasn t had a proper preseason at this point, so we re just trying to find a way to keep him on the field long enough to where he can build that fitness base that we need, Mastroeni said. If we can get that, I ll feel comfortable managing him moving forward.
