A 58-year-old woman pleaded guilty Wednesday to theft and charitable fraud for bilking $1 million through a scheme involving donated mattresses.
Genevieve Cruz obtained Serta mattresses returned under the company’s warranty program under false pretenses, claiming that they were being donated to the Ecumenical Refugee and Immigration Services Inc. in Denver and distributed to refugees.
Instead, authorities say Cruz, who was the donation coordinator for the charity, actually sold most of the mattresses for profit at reduced prices out of storage units in Adams County.

Cruz and Shryock were charged in April 2015 in the case.
Cruz will be sentenced May 25.
Shryock will be sentenced May 16.
