The Mesa County Coroner’s Office has identified the Mesa County Detention Facility inmate who jumped to his death Thursday as Carl McDaniel.

McDaniel, 50, died from multiple blunt force injuries at the facility, Victor Yahn, chief deputy coroner, said in a statement. McDaniel’s death was ruled a suicide.

McDaniel has been in the detention center since May 2014, according to information from the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office, which is overseeing the investigation. He was awaiting sentencing on a recent conviction of sexual assault on a child, sheriff’s office officials said.

McDaniel was convicted last month on multiple counts for sexual assault on a child, the .

The Daily Sentinel reported that McDaniel faced a possible sentence of 288 years for crimes involving four children.
