
Lance Clem, longtime spokesman for the who also was active in politics and an advocate for safety issues, died April 6 at Littleton Adventist Hospital.
Clem, 65, retired last fall to focus on his battle with Merkel cell carcinoma, a rare and aggressive skin cancer.
As , he was the voice of several agencies, including the , the Colorado State Patrol, the Division of Criminal Justice and the Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management.
He was active in Democratic politics and also worked on public safety issues such as AIDS awareness, motorcycle helmet laws, the designated driver program and the implementation of “fusion centers” to facilitate interagency information sharing to combat terrorism.
Clem was a graduate of Denver’s George Washington High School and the . He majored in journalism and worked at The Denver Post before his 20-year career in public safety.
A gathering and reception will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at 393 S. High St. in Denver.
