Scattered snow and showers are expected through Tuesday night in the Denver metro area before a warming trend begins on Wednesday, forecasters say.

There is a slight chance of rain and snow between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and then a slight chance for rain after 2 p.m., according to the National Weather Service in Boulder.

It should be mostly cloudy, with a high near 43 degrees on Monday. The chance for precipitation is 20 percent. There is a better chance that it could rain and snow Monday night, according to the NWS.

“We could see a few isolated showers today,” said Jim Kalina, NWS meteorologist.

Up to a half-inch of snow is expected to accumulate.

In the mountains, a winter weather advisory will be in effect until 3 a.m. Tuesday morning. Between 4 and 10 inches of snow could fall in the mountains Monday and Tuesday, Kalina said.

On Tuesday, there is a chance for snow before 9 a.m. in Denver and then rain is expected until noon. Thunder is also possible. The high temperature Tuesday is expected to be around 48 degrees.

A warming trend under mostly sunny skies begins on Wednesday, when the high temperature is expected to reach 57 degrees.

“It should be a good warm up,” Kalina said.

The high on Thursday will be about 65 and on Friday and Saturday the high could reach 74 degrees.

There is a slight chance for rain and thunderstorms on Saturday and Sunday.

The high temperature is expected to drop to near 68 degrees on Sunday.
