One westbound lane of Interstate 70 will remain closed through the Eisenhower/Johnson Memorial Tunnel until 8 a.m. Friday to replace a damaged concrete barrier.
The right-lane closure, which began Tuesday morning, means that traffic will funnel into one lane at the westbound tunnel approach and resume two lanes after exiting the tunnel. The speed limit will drop to 40 mph.
After the concrete has set, work will resume at 10 p.m. on Sunday until the project is finished. Work will be suspended if weather conditions warrant.
The closure will allow crews to form and pour concrete that had crumbled due to moisture and an extreme freeze-thaw cycle.
