Re: How one student’s art and experience shed light on a shadowy subject, April 20 news story.
Kudos to ThunderRidge High School student Olivia Stewart for having the courage to take on such a difficult subject in her artwork, and for sharing it widely. She obviously has a lot of talent and there is a vivid authenticity to her work.
Knowing that there are many bright, talented and caring young adults in this world, like Olivia, gives me hope for the future. In addition, she also demonstrates a good reason for keeping the arts as part of our public school curriculum. Her art education allowed her to develop a talent and grow as an individual. Her art project helped her overcome a difficult time in her life, and allowed her to convey challenging ideas to peers and the community at large. Quite a benefit to her and society.
