A Denver man shot to death late Saturday in the city’s West Colfax neighborhood was allegedly killed by his father, police said Tuesday.
Daniel Clark, 62, is being held on investigation of murder in the death of 43-year-old . Denver police had not revealed the nature of their relationship until Tuesday.
The elder Clark called 911 to report he had shot his son, according to a police statement of probable cause seeking murder charges against Clark after his arrest Sunday.
Police say Clark later told them he walked a few blocks from his home on the 1500 block of Quitman Street to his son’s home on the 1500 block of Vrain Street about 8 p.m. Saturday. The two spent part of the evening playing a football video game and drinking alcohol, police said Clark told them.
Father and son got into an argument for an undisclosed reason and the fight spilled outside the house, police said. The older Clark said he either fell or was pushed, police said, and then his son began to kick him.
The father retrieved a pistol from a backpack, managed to get to his feet and then shot his son twice when the younger Clark allegedly said “I will kill you” and came at him, police said in a probable cause statement they released Tuesday.
Police say Daniel Clark told them his son had assaulted him in the past, including an incident in which the elder Clark lost an eye.
Denver County court records show Temujin Clark had several run-ins with police, including a 1997 conviction for misdemeanor assault. It was not immediately clear if that case was connected to Daniel Clark’s alleged assault.
Daniel Clark also has been arrested a number of times through the years on misdemeanor charges.
The death of Temujin Clark remains under investigation.
