deCollage

As we’ve mentioned in Steal This Track before, Denver has a vibrant, diverse community of psychedelic musicians. There’s enough of a scene, actually, to warrant a festival all its own, Denver Psych Fest. And now, we have a Denver psych-pop supergroup in .

“Collective” may actually be a better description than “supergroup.” deCollage features members of , , and a handful of other Colorado psych groups, but on its debut album, “Magnetize,” out May 27, there are over 20 artists contributing. As a result, listeners may encounter a glockenspiel, accordion or typewriter among handfuls of other instruments. deCollage is born out of , a Baker house/studio that acts as the hub for these hyper-creative musicians.

With so many contributors, this could easily devolve into a mess. But Reed Fuchs, who writes much of the music and lyrics, acts as ring leader on the project, resulting in tracks that, while eclectic and expansive, retain a level of cohesion. Same goes for the live shows, which really highlight how deCollage is more of a cooperative project than a band: there are painters on stage and audience participation. This is as much theater as musical performance.

Below, download “Better Things Pt 2,” a track off of “Magnestize.” Then follow deCollage on to keep up on releases and magical performances.

Please note that downloads offered via Steal This Track are intended to whet your appetite, and are NOT CD-quality recordings. If you want those, please support the artists by buying their music and/or seeing them live.

If you re a Colorado band or musician ready to expose your fresh sounds to the readers of Reverb, email your tracks — along with any interesting facts about them, as well as a photo or album art — to Steal This Track for consideration. We only feature tracks not available for free elsewhere.
