The Arvada Police Department has secured an $875,000 grant to advance its by adding seven additional officers.
Arvada was the only one of 17 Colorado agencies who sought the grant from the Department of Justice. Its application explained how the funding would allow it to enhance community policing approaches to a specific problem area.
In the fast-growing area, community policing practices previously focused on three geographic areas based on population and calls for service. The grant allows for increased staffing and the creation of a fourth sector on the city’s west side to further decentralize the department’s approach.
Eventually, the new sector will have its own community station. All seven officer candidates funded by the grant are attending the police academy and scheduled to graduate later this month.
