Lakewood Police have found a Denver Water Department truck that was stolen after an employee left the keys in the ignition, according to Sgt. TJ Jacobson, Lakewood police spokesman.

But whoever stole it from 29th Avenue and Fenton Street in Wheat Ridge is still at large, Jacobson said.

The water department reported the truck stolen at around 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

“The worker stepped out to do something, and someone jumped in and took off,” Jacobson said.

Lakewood police located the vehicle at 2:51 p.m., in an unincorporated area of Jefferson County, Jacobson said.

Police used a dog to track the thief but the search was unsuccessful.
