An emergency drill will be held Sunday with first-responders and local agencies to prepare for the opening of two major metro-area rail lines later this year.
Denver Transit Partners and the Regional Transportation District will coordinate the drill for the B-Line to Westminster and G-Line to Wheat Ridge. The four-hour event starts at 8 a.m. near 2200 W. 60th Ave., just south of the I-76 bridge structure along the B-Line.
The exercise is part of the testing and commissioning phase of the projects, RTD officials said in a news release.
“This drill helps to ensure that (Denver Transit Partners) not only has an emergency preparedness plan in place, but that we also have a rehearsed, coordinated response if a situation arises when we need to execute the plan,” said Aaron Epstein, DTP’s executive project director and CEO.
The exercise will help coordinate the role of fire and law enforcement agencies, emergency management and DTP and RTD specifically in the event of a train accident on either line.
The B-Line, which will run between Union Station and the new Westminster Station at West 69th Avenue and Grove Street, is , and the G-Line, which will go out to Wheat Ridge from Union Station, opens in the fall.
