A man who was killed at a Super 8 hotel last week has been identified.

Michael House, a 29-year-old from Thornton, was shot in the early .

House was a local musician who went by the .

His sister, Danielle Urban, said House had been working in music since he was 14. He called himself a lyricist, not a rapper, she said.

“The only thing he ever wanted was a family of his own, because we struggled as kids. … He got the life he wanted,” Urban said.

House left behind a wife and three children, ages 8, 2 and 1.

Urban said family members are struggling with questions about how House was killed. She said investigators have suggested House was not the primary target of the shooters.

Adams County Sheriff’s office officials say they cannot release more information about the case at this time.

Jose Ocampo, 37, was arrested a day after the shooting by SWAT officers at a Motel 6 in Lakewood. He is being held without bond and is facing multiple charges including first-degree murder after deliberation and first-degree murder with extreme indifference. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing June 17.

Adams County deputies also issued an . He was last seen in a stolen white 1996 Jeep Cherokee with Texas license plate number GFW-7518.

A service for House is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday at the Romero Family Funeral Home, 4750 Tejon St. in Denver.
