Colorado Rapids at Seattle Sounders
When: 8 p.m. Saturday
Where: CenturyLink Field
TV/Radio: Altitude; 950 AM
Spotlight on Jordan Morris:
The Sounders’ homegrown striker has found his scoring touch, bagging a goal in four of his past five games. He has put 11 of his 16 shots on target this season. The rookie striker scored the Sounders’ lone goal the last time these teams met, a 3-1 Rapids win at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park on April 23. After the match Saturday, Morris is expected to join the U.S. national team for the Copa America Centenario tournament. He is on the 40-man U.S. provisional roster, along with club teammates Clint Dempsey and Brad Evans.
NOTEBOOK
Rapids:
Colorado (7-2-3, 24 points) is in first place in MLS Supporters’ Shield standings, unbeaten in seven consecutive games. The Rapids have had a tough time getting points in Seattle, where they are 1-8-1 in 10 games. But that one victory came in the Rapids’ last trip to the Emerald City on July 18, 2015, a 1-0 win on the strength of a Kevin Doyle goal. … Former Sounders midfielder Marco Pappa, who suffered a knee injury during Colorado’s April 16 win over the New York Red Bulls, is listed as out on the Rapids’ injury report. Defender Eric Miller also is out.
Sounders:
Seattle (4-5-1, 13 points) is in eighth place in the Western Conference and returns home after having a two-game winning streak snapped by FC Dallas. Seattle should have the services of U.S. international striker Clint Dempsey, who missed the April 23 meeting. Since joining Seattle, Dempsey has four goals and two assists in five games against Colorado.
Footnote:
Rapids striker Kevin Doyle (Ireland), midfielder Jermaine Jones (U.S.) and winger Shkelzen Gashi (Albania) are expected to depart for international duty after this match.
