I wonder if the people who buried spikes in Little Scraggy Trail realized that hikers also use these trails and considered the danger that spikes present if a hiker steps on one of them. Looking at the length of the spike or nail that was included with your article, stepping on it would drive the spike all the way through the foot, resulting in a visit to the emergency room. Treatment could involve surgery, and complications could mean the loss of a limb or even death.

Thatap a pretty extreme action just to cause problems for some mountain bikers.
