Forget asking for the etymology, definition, part of speech or language of origin. Sometimes it’s best to throw your spelling question into the old Google machine to get some help.

And the most common word Coloradans want to know how to spell? “Beautiful.”

That’s according to , which on Thursday released a map showing the most commonly searched-for “how to spell” words so far for 2016. Google didn’t provide any specific reason for word selection — just the words — but it’s easy to see why that word might resonate in a place of towering majestic mountains, meandering rivers, vast expanses of forested land and sweeping plains.

Still, it’s not exactly “comitatus” or “shubunkin” or “ptyalism” — some of the words 13-year-old Sylvie had to sweat her way through.

In Wyoming, the most common “how to spell” query was for “ornery.” For our neighbors to the south in New Mexico, it was, well, “neighbor.” In Utah, it was “leprechaun,” and in Kansas, “schedule.”

Nationally, “pneumonia” was the most-searched-for word. “Beautiful” was second, and “desert,” “maintenance” and “appreciate” rounded out the top five.
