Prosecutors have charged an Adams County man who ran a handyman operation that allegedly swindled more than $162,000 from unsuspecting homeowners who hired him but never saw their jobs finished.

John Ivers, 56, is the owner of Honey Won’t Do and, according to prosecutors, made off with deposits from 27 people who hired him to do a variety of home-improvement projects from June to December 2015.

Ivers was arrested in Springfield, Ill., on May 27 and is awaiting extradition to Colorado.

Prosecutors from the 17th Judicial District said Ivers gave homeowners little more than drawings and rough measurements on projects that included home additions, finished basements, decks, patios and remodeling work to bathrooms and kitchens.

District Attorney Dave Young said Ivers was charged with 17 counts of felony theft including two counts of theft from an at-risk adult, and a single count of misdemeanor theft, according to a press release.
