Getting your player ready...

Rockies shortstop Jose Reyes returned to competition with Triple-A Albuquerque after his 59-day suspension for violation of baseball’s domestic violence policy ended. And he acknowledged that rookie Trevor Story is in his way at the big-league level.

“The only thing I control right now is being here and trying to get ready as soon as possible,” in the Isotopes dugout before a game against Fresno on Wednesday night.

“I know Trevor has been doing an unbelievable job. That’s good to see. When you see a baseball player as a young man come to the big leagues and perform the way he is, that’s good to see.”

As part of Reyes’ suspension agreement with MLB, he can remain on the restricted list, off the Rockies’ 40-man roster, for a maximum of 14 days. After that, the options for him to return to Colorado seem limited. The Rockies have a full roster, and Story has established himself as the starting shortstop.

“This process, there’s a lot of stuff going through my head,” Reyes said. “But I’m trying to take it day to day.”

The Isotopes’ game Wednesday against Fresno was postponed due to rain. A doubleheader was scheduled for Thursday.
