The Empire Lyric Players have been putting on shows for the community for a half-century, but, as the group points out in a news release, “you’ve probably never heard of them.” The company of about 50 professional and amateur performers hopes to change that in 2016 by organizing its one-off performances of Gilbert and Sullivan operas (thatap all they do, G&S) into an actual season.

It kicks off next week with a double bill of “Trial by Jury” and “Cox and Box” and follows with “Ruddigore” in October and “A Gilbert and Sullivan Christmas Carol” in December. See them June 16-19 at Montview Presbyterian Church, 1980 Dahlia St., $15. Info at .
