Flags in Colorado will be lowered to half-staff on Saturday to honor a Marine and Durango native.

Capt. Jeff Kuss, 32, died June 2 when his during a practice session for a Tennessee airshow.

Kuss served in Afghanistan and received numerous awards, including the Strike Flight Air Medal and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, according to the governor’s office. He joined the Blue Angels in 2014.

A graduate of Durango High School and Fort Lewis College, Kuss is survived by his wife and two children.

Flags will be lowered, by an order of Gov. John Hickenlooper, from sunrise to sunset Saturday.
