Sunday in Denver could be like almost every other day the past week: a warm day yielding to afternoon showers and thunderstorms.

Sunday could be cooler, however, with a high of 84 degrees. Saturday hit 90, well above the 30-year average of 81 degrees, but below the record high for date — 100 degrees — set in 2013, according to the National Weather Service.

Rain could persist until midnight Saturday and Sunday.

Denver is below-average for rain in June with 0.51 inches, compared to the normal of 0.81, going into Saturday.

For 2016, the city has gotten 7.61 inches of precipitation, over the average of 6.34, according to the weather service.

The metro region has chances for showers and thunderstorms each afternoon until Wednesday, when the high could reach 92 degrees, forecasters said.

Daily highs are expected to remain in the low-90s through at least Saturday. Weather records for the dates range from 95 to 100 degrees.

Other parts of the state were much hotter than Denver on Saturday. Lamar had the state’s highest temperature at 99, La Junta reported a high of 98 and Greeley recorded a high of 95, according to the National Weather Service.

The coolest place in the state was Telluride, where the high reached only 72 degrees, forecasters said.
