When: 1 – 6:30 p.m. Friday
Where: Coyote Creek Golf Course (222 Clubhouse Drive, Fort Lupton)
Dz:$77 ()
Why you should go: The opening sentence on the website description is “Let the Shenanigans Begin!” And that’s Shenanigans with a capital “S” to you! Come play golf in a crazy Hawaiian shirt (there’s a prize for ‘best dressed’) and go to town on some margs and Coronas (of course).

MORE INFO:

When: 5 p.m. Friday
Where: J Wells (2516 49th Street #5, Boulder)
Cost: Free (call to register: 720-254-3879)
Why you should go: This 10-mile group trail ride down the Boulder Ale Trail is part of Boulder’s Walk & Bike Month. Bikes, beers, bros, broads and Boulder. This is why people move to Colorado, right? Minus another B-word I am choosing to omit here. May I direct you to our other website, ?

When: 5:30 – 9 p.m. Friday
Where: White Ranch Park, West Trailhead (25303 Belcher Hill Road, Golden)
Cost: Free ()
Why you should go: Drawing, a stress relief, in nature, another excellent stress relief… We all have a lot of stress. Why not unload at the end of the day, at the end of the week? You don’t have to be a good drawer — just sketch out your own interpretations of nature’s twilight happenings. There’s also a potluck dinner, BYOF — bring your own forks.

When: 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. Saturday
Where: Evergreen Golf Course (29614 Upper Bear Creek Road, Evergreen)
Cost: Free-ish… But need to raise $$$ ()
Why you should go: This isn’t traditional golfing at all, but more of a challenge of golfing by any means necessary e.g. golf clubs, tennis rackets, buckets, hockey sticks, fishing pole, baseball bat, a human-sized stuffed Gumby doll, or any other creative means of getting that dang ball into the hole. The money raised is for AfricAid — a program that started out focused on providing scholarships and direct support to Tanzanian schools, but has “adopted a more strategic approach to girls’ education to more holistically address the structural barriers facing even the most academically accomplished young women.”

MORE INFO:

When: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Saturday
Where: Castlewood Canyon State Park (2989 S Highway 83, Franktown)
Cost: $7-70 (Valid CO State Parks pass required)
Why you should go: Ya like dags? Bring the whole squad to an entire day dedicated to fun doggy programs and activities. There will be a dog photo booth, bone bar for the little buddies, dog splash pools and a ton of other fantastic and canine-friendly classes and events.

Schedule:

  • 11:00 a.m.- Noon, “First Aid for Your Dog”
  • 12:30 -2:00 p.m. “Hike with Your Dog”

MORE INFO:

When: 10 – 10:45 a.m. Saturday
Where: Rocky Mountain Arsenal (6550 Gateway Road, Commerce City)
Cost: Free
Why you should go: I don’t really know how to explain why you should go to this, but seriously, why not go? Meet the refuge’s black-footed ferrets — a fragile species brought back from the brink of extinction — and watch them have their mid-morning snack, whatever that may be. Cheetos, perhaps? Well, just ran a Google, and it turns out black-footed ferrets eat…. prairie dogs; also, squirrels, rabbits, birds. So there’s that.

When: 7 p.m. Saturday
Where: Dick’s Sporting Goods Park (600 Victory Way, Commerce City)
Cost: $30-60 ()
Why you should go: Do you like soccer yet? The Rapids are good. Go have some Colorado pride, even if it’s not football. It technically is though; for jeepers chrysanthemum, it’s called “fùtbol!”

JUST FOR FUN:

When: 7 p.m. Saturday
Where: Budweiser Events Center (5290 Arena Circle, Loveland)
Cost: $13-36 ()
Why you should go: If you really can’t get into soccer, whatever, here’s a real (American) football game to attend. But, uh… It’s just not the Denver Broncos.

But, meanwhile, in Broncos land….

Vonnie, Vonnie, Vonnie….

When: 7:30 p.m. Saturday
Where: Sports Authority Field at Mile High (1701 Mile High Stadium Circle, Denver)
Cost: $14-45 ()
Why you should go: Lacrosse is a fun sport to watch, and a more aggressive sales pitch: you’ll get your Mile High fix before the first NFL game in Denver.

JUST FOR FUN: Last weekend, 24 Hour Fitness and the Denver Broncos and, more importantly, a gigantic fitness party

//

When: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Saturday
Where: Denver Public Library, Central Library (10 W. Fourteenth Ave., Pkwy. 80204, Denver)
Cost: Free
Why you should go: Family activity! The idea of this is to impersonate animals as you make your way through the animal obstacle course. I feel a monkey would probably have the easiest time getting through an obstacle course, and a flamingo might have more challenges. The library website suggests a mountain goat and frog. I would not encourage mimicking a snail.

MORE INFO:

When: Race is 10 a.m. Saturday; Parade is 9:30 a.m. Sunday; PrideFest is Saturday 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.; Sunday 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Where: Civic Center Park (101 W. 14th Avenue, Denver)
Cost: 5K is $35 ()
Why you should go: All events in partnership with Denver PrideFest to advocate for the LGBT community of Denver. This is a very, very important time for us all to come together and show support for one another.

SPEND TIME WITH YOUR DAD

When: All day
Where: Anywhere and everywhere
Cost: In the virtuous words of Sheryl Crow’s songwriter, “.”
Why you should go: There are few excuses in this world for neglecting a parent appreciation holiday. I understand if you do not have a father to spend time with on this day, for any reason. So why not spend your time supporting dad’s with cancer? Which leads me to the next, related event….

When: 8 a.m. Sunday
Where: St. Michaels Square (2918 67th Avenue, Greeley)
Cost: Up to $25 ()
Why you should go: This is a 5K run/walk with all profits going to Luv-a-Dad — a nonprofit organization that financially assists fathers with cancer.
