Search and rescue officials are looking for a missing woman on the Green River at Dinosaur National Monument after the raft she was on flipped Friday afternoon and she did not make it to shore.

The woman was with a group guided by one of the commercial companies operating in the monument. The raft flipped at about 5 p.m., according to a news release from the National Park Service. All others on the raft made it safely back to shore except the woman.

Dan Johnson, Chief of Interpretation and Visitor Services for Dinosaur National Monument, said there were 19 people in the group, but it is not yet clear how many were on the raft that flipped.

The trip leader notified the monument about the incident by satellite phone and officials began a search.

“Classic Lifeguard Air Ambulance was dispatched to conduct air reconnaissance along the river corridor until darkness prevented further efforts,” the news release states.

The woman’s identity is not being released pending notification of her family.

Disaster Falls, where the woman went missing in Moffat County, is rated as Class III-IV rapids depending on river levels and is located in a remote section of the Canyon of Lodore, approximately seven miles from the river launch at the Gates of Lodore.

The Green River was flowing at approximately 8,600 cubic feet per second at the time of the incident. The raft is currently pinned to a rock in the river due to the force of the current.
