Re: “California police panned for slow response to Capitol clash,” June 28 news brief.

I read with chagrin the article detailing the police response to the expected clash between a white nationalist group and counter-protesters in Sacramento, Calif. The gist of the article was that a watch group with the National Lawyers Guild was at the rally to document police brutality but instead complained the police were unprepared and too slow to react.

It seems the police can’t win, whether they are viewed as too fast on the draw or too slow to react. Is it possible that the police showed restraint in this case to keep from getting accused of lack of restraint? The do-gooder Lawyers Guild group was ready with their pencils sharpened to document overreaction. Where do you draw the line?
