What to Watch
Colorado Springs native Boris Berian will get his shot to make the Rio Olympic team in the men’s 800-meter final, the night’s marquee event. The reigning world indoor champion in the event, he is expected to win. … Former Colorado distance star Emma Coburn will race in the first round of the women’s 3,000 steeplechase. Coburn, who has won the U.S. outdoor title four of the last five years, broke the American record — — in May at the Prefontaine Classic and has positioned herself as a medal contender in Rio (she finished ninth in London in 2012). Also in the race are former CU runner and 2012 Olympian Shalaya Kipp and current CU runner and two-time Pac-12 champion Erin Clark. … In the men’s first round of the 3K steeple is 2013 CU grad Aric Van Halen. … In the men’s pole vault final are three Air Force alums, including Dylan Bell, who graduated in May and was fourth in qualifying; plus Cale Simmons (2012) and Joey Uhle (2015). … In the women’s 800 final, look for Alysia Montano,Brenda Martinez and Ajee’ Wilson. … In the men’s 5K first round,Galen Rupp will race to try to qualify for Rio for a third time. Also in the event is 41-year-old Bernard Lagat, who dropped out of the 10,000 on Friday and will make his last attempt to make his fifth Olympic team.
