DeSoto High graduate and Super Bowl 50 MVP Von Miller returned to his Texas stomping grounds Friday to honor the DeSoto Police and Fire Departments.

Miller purchased and customized a 2016 Ford Explorer Interceptor for the police department and donated $25,000 to the DeSoto Fire Rescue, which will be used for $2,500 scholarships to the DeSoto Fire Academy awarded each year for 10 years.

Alongside the mayor, council members, city administration and members of the police and fire departments, Miller will present the car and the scholarship money Friday at the DeSoto Police Department. That evening he will head to Globe Life Park in Arlington to throw out the at the Rangers-Twins game.

Miller and the Broncos continue to work toward a long-term deal but have only eight days to reach an accord. Miller spoke with general manager John Elway and president Joe Ellis last weekend to restart the dialogue after a month-long impasse, but if no deal is reached by the July 15 deadline, Miller has to sign the $14.1 million franchise tag to play next season — or he could sit out.
