A string of about a dozen mudslides Wednesday afternoon northwest of Telluride closed a state highway.
The San Miguel County Sheriff’s Office said the slides, along or across Colorado 145 between the towns of Sawpit and Placerville, are up to 5 feet deep in some places.

“Deputies (are) evacuating dozens of vehicles,” the sheriff’s office said in a tweet.
The highway is closed, though authorities say about 3:30 p.m. they were working to reopen one lane of traffic.
The route is the northern artery into Telluride.
